Almost 200 ladies from Crossgar & the surrounding area attended the evening The ladies of Crossgar and the surrounding area were treated to a night of fashion, beauty and much more when the group held its April meeting.  President, Sheila McMurray, welcomed all to an evening of fashion and entertainment, which she described as  "a showcase of Crossgar village".  She then asked those present to join with her in observing a minute's silence to mark the death of The Queen Mother , who was a member of Sandringham W.I.

A particularly warm welcome was extended to distinguished guest, Federation Chairman, Mrs Joan Shanks, who very kindly took time from her hectic schedule to be with Crossgar Institute.

The fashion show was presented by Mrs Jean Murphy of "Flame Fashions",  Downpatrick Street Crossgar, and was compèred by Mrs Irene McClenaghan.  A varied and  tempting selection of colourful and attractive clothes suitable for many occasions, ranging from wedding to holiday, were beautifully  displayed  by the models who included some Crossgar W.I. members.

Zara of " Zara's Beauty  Studio" in Killyleagh Street, Crossgar was responsible for setting the cosmetic and beauty scene! She also displayed a range of beauty products and was available for consultation during the evening.  Shauna of "The Crowe's Nest", Downpatrick Street, Crossgar provided a delightful table display from her wide range of charming and interesting gifts while Betty of Village Flowers, Downpatrick Street, Crossgar provided a beautiful floral arrangement to adorn the hall for the occasion.

At the conclusion of the evening Mrs Sheila McMurray thanked Mrs Jean Murphy of Flame Fashions and her team for the time and effort they had put into the show to make it so enjoyable for their audience.  She then went on to thank Zara, Shauna and Betty for their contributions to the evening which made it so varied and interesting.

Reflecting on the hardship experienced by many community bodies due to the foot and mouth outbreak last year, which curtailed many country activities and depleted finances, Mrs Sheila McMurray presented Mrs Joan Shanks with a cheque for Federation funds on behalf of Crossgar W.I.  A donation will also be made to a charity of members choice.

Finally, Mrs Sheila McMurray thanked the committee and all of the members that had worked so hard to make the evening the success it was. She also paid special tribute to Mrs Irene Deboys who recently was awarded the coveted "gold award" for her craftwork.
